Rainbow Ready - Preventing elder abuse in Takatāpui and Rainbow communities
This module provides information to assist with the prevention and identification of elder abuse for older Takatāpui and Rainbow people. It is aimed in particular at healthcare practitioners, older person’s services and those working in a wide variety of social services.

In 2022, Hohou Te Rongo Kahukura responded to calls from Takatāpui and Rainbow elders that they felt invisible and were worried about how well they would be treated as they got older, including by their families, aged care providers and other services for older people.
In collaboration with Rainbow Hub Waikato, we led community engagement research into the needs of older Takatāpui and Rainbow people, hearing from:
• 424 Takatāpui and Rainbow elders via online survey
• 17 Māori, Pasifika and ethnic people via six focus groups
• 11 Takatāpui and Rainbow elders via in-depth interviews
Uplifting Takatāpui and Rainbow Elder Voices, Tukua kia tū takitahi ngā whetū o te rangi, has allowed us to identify the specific risk and protective factors for elder abuse for older people in our communities.
Rainbow Ready – preventing elder abuse keeps up our focus on uplifting Takatāpui and Rainbow elder voices and builds on that project. We hope you like it!
